I got a taste for Irish music many years ago, first from records and then from many holidays in Ireland , mostly timed to coincide with the Fleadh Cheoil. This is the national trad music festival in Ireland which works up through local heats to a national championship. I only attended a few of the competitive events, but the real craic was in the bars where people would meet and play all day and night!

I joined the Village Band after a long stint with Uncle John’s Band, a local pub and function band. UJB played a fair amount of Irish music mixed in with other stuff, so when that split up it was a very easy step to fit in with the Village Band. Ed and Mary were already old friends, and they made me very welcome. The band’s style is laid back, and this is typified in our rehearsals which are just as much a social event as they are work.
